The United States has initiated a fresh series of military strikes targeting Iranian sites, following a temporary cessation of hostilities, thereby elevating apprehensions of a broader conflict erupting throughout the Middle East. This aggressive move came in retaliation to Iran’s attack on a U.S. military installation in Jordan, which accommodates American service members. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning, asserting that the U.S. would retaliate “very hard” against Tehran’s actions.
According to U.S. Central Command, the American military executed a series of strikes over a two-hour timeframe, aimed at multiple sites associated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. These strikes targeted military command centers, missile and drone facilities, as well as coastal defense and surveillance installations. Iranian authorities reported that explosions occurred on Qeshm Island, located near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and in Khuzestan province, resulting in at least two injuries as per state media reports.
The latest military escalation follows previous strikes on Iranian-backed militias positioned in Iraq, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of numerous fighters and Iranian advisors. This development has further heightened concerns regarding the potential for the conflict to extend across the region, as international mediators find themselves at an impasse in efforts to resume dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Global energy markets have responded sharply to the renewed hostilities, with Brent crude oil prices surging by more than 7%. This rise reflects growing anxieties about possible disruptions in oil supplies through critical Middle Eastern shipping lanes, which are vital to the global energy supply chain.
